Puppies for Sale

A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a sign advertising the 4 pups, and set about nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard.

As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt tug on his overalls.

He looked down into the eyes of a little boy.

"Mister," he said, "I want to buy one of your puppies."

"Well," said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat of the back of his neck, "these puppies come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money."

The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then reaching deep into his pocket,
he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer. "I've
got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take a look?"

"Sure," said the farmer. And with that he let out a whistle. "Here Dolly!" he called.

Out from the doghouse and down ramp ran Dolly followed by four little balls of fur.

The little boy pressed his face against the chain link fence. His eyes danced with delight.

As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed
something else stirring inside the doghouse.

Slowly another little ball appeared, this one noticeably smaller.

Down the ramp it slid. Then in a awkward manner, the little pup began hobbling toward the others, doing its best to catch up....

"I want that one," the little boy said, pointing to the runt.

The farmer knelt down at the boy's side and said, "Son, you don't want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like these other dogs would."

With that the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his trousers. In doing so he revealed a steel brace running down both sides of his leg attaching itself to a specially made shoe.

Looking back up at the farmer, he said, "You see sir, I don't run too well myself, and he will need someone who understands."

With tears in his eyes, the farmer reached down and picked up the little pup. Holding it carefully he handed it to the little boy.

"How much?" asked the little boy.

"No charge," answered the farmer, "There's no charge for love."

I am Thankful

Don't Quit!

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow,
Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Life as a Tree

Still as a log,
Leaves swaying in the breeze.
Standing tall and proud.
This is life, for all of us trees.

Birds use us for their humble little nests,
They are the occupants that we like best.
Owls are ok, but their claws are scratchy,
and possums we aren't particulary fond of.
We are what a variety of animals call home,
so all trees should just be left alone!

Humans don't know just how bad they can be,
to flaura and fauna and trees like me!

So don't chop us, or cut us or pollute us!
And that goes for all sorts of plants!
Because we are important to all nature; from wallabies to birds and simple little ants!

So next time you pick up that axe,
if you decide to continue, your thoughtfulness lacks!

Place Of Power

I stared out the window, showing no emotion. The strong wind blowing in the rain and letting the wet lace curtains flap annoyingly against my bare arms. Below me is the raging white water. Angrily crashing against the ragged rocks beneath, slowly turning them into stone knives as time ticks on.
No matter what I felt before, watching the rolling of the waves always calms me, no matter what element batters me through the window. My place of power and protection. It feels as though nothing can hurt me here, but it is a cruel world, and I know this feeling is a false hope, for anything could happen.
But maybe today,luck might be on my side. No one dies today, no one gets hurt, just once. I feel so strong here. Like nothing could ever touch me, not even the raging water beneath or the wild wind looking me in the eye.
I smell the salt on the wind and feel the cold rain plaster on my skin. The crashing of the waves echo across the water like thunder. The sky is grey with thick, heavy clouds. A barrier between me and the sun. Yet the displacement hardly fazes me, as I am lost in my own world. A world of raging water and strong, harsh winds. A world where nothing hurt me. In my dreams, I am protected.

Used vs Loved

While a man was polishing his new car,
his 4 yr old son picked up a stone
and scratched lines on the side of the car.
In anger, the man took the child’s hand
and hit it many times not realizing
he was using a wrench.
At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers
due to multiple fractures.
When the child saw his father…..
with painful eyes he asked, ‘Dad when will my fingers grow back?’
The man was so hurt and speechless;
he went back to his car and kicked it a lot of times.
Devastated by his own actions….. .
sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches;
the child had written ‘LOVE YOU DAD’.
The next day that man committed suicide. . .

Anger and Love have no limits;
choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely
life & remember this:
Things are to be used and people are to be loved.
The problem in today’s world is
that people are used while things are loved.
Let’s try always to keep this thought in mind:

Things are to be used,

People are to be loved.

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character;
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

I hope you have a good day no matter what problems you may face
it’s the only day you’ll have before it’s over.

Just Stay-A Lovely Story

A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside.

“Your son is here,” she said to the old man.

She had to repeat the words several times before the patient’s eyes opened.

Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man’s limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.

The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man’s hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile.

He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital – the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.

Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night.

Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited.

Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her.

“Who was that man?” he asked.

The nurse was startled, “He was your father,” she answered.

“No, he wasn’t,” the Marine replied. “I never saw him before in my life.”

“Then why didn’t you say something when I took you to him?”

“I knew right away there had been a mistake,
but I also knew he needed his son, and his
son just wasn’t here.

When I realized that he was too sick to tell
whether or not I was his son,
knowing how much he needed me, I stayed.”

I came here tonight to find a Mr. William Grey.
His Son was Killed in Iraq today, and I was sent to
inform him. What was this Gentleman‘s Name?

The Nurse with Tears in Her Eyes Answered,
Mr. William Grey………….

The next time someone needs you … just be there. Stay.

A Lovely Story

The less you know-the more you make

The Less You Know, The More You Make

“Salary Theorem” states that “Engineers and Scientists can never earn as much as Business Executives and Sales People.”

This theorem can now be supported by a mathematical equation based on the following two postulates:

1. Knowledge is Power.
2. Time is Money.

As every engineer knows:
Power = Work / Time
Since:
Knowledge = Power
Time = Money

It follows that:
Knowledge = Work/Money.

Solving for Money, we get:
Money = Work / Knowledge.

Thus, as Knowledge approaches zero, Money approaches infinity, regardless of the amount of work done.

Conclusion:
The less you know,the more you make.

Insignificance

I feel like a speck of dust floating on the skin of the water. What will happen when the wind blows hard and the water shakes its skin away?

random quotes

Mind boggling

Imagine a man who is on a long journey, on his ship. and a part of the ship breaks, so he chucks the broken bit of wood overboard and replaces it with a new bit of wood. I don't know, maybe he stopped at an island to get the wood. Anyway, a bit further on another bit of the ship is broken so he replaces that with a new bit of wood. It's still his ship, of course. And this continues, until by the time he reaches his destination, every single bit of the ship has been replaced by new wood.

The question is, is it still the man's ship? And if not, when exactly did it not become his ship? Because no part of it is the ship he started out in.

Of course, if the man had just scraped the whole ship in one go and bought another one, it'd be easy. The original ship would be dead and gone and the new one would be obviously a different ship. But the fact that it was gradual changes everything.

Well, it's the same with people. Am I the same person as I was a year ago, just with some new bits, or has so much of me changed that I am dead and gone and have been replaced by someone totally different? And when did I become not me?

i just thought this was an intriguing story...got the idea from the book Sleepwalking-by Nicola Morgan
